5 Simple Steps to Treating IBS Without Drugs or Surgeries

Imagine having a disease with symptoms so severe that you are afraid of leaving the house because “ I can’t trust that I might have a problem in public”, yet your doctor calls it “Stress“ or a “psychosomatic,” disease — meaning that it’s all in your head.  IBS is a very real disease for the 60 million people — that’s 20 percent of Americans — who have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). These people are plagued by uncomfortable and often disabling symptoms like bloating, cramps, diarrhea, constipation, and pain.

Their previous doctors simply “managed” the disease with sedatives, anti-spasm drugs, or antidepressants. Sadly, this does not get to the cause of what is happening to the body. If you don’t address the underlying cause of why your digestion is not working, it will not reverse or remediate the problem. 5 Steps to treating IBS

  1. Get tested. Try to get a test for IgG, IgA food allergies and eliminate the foods that test positive for 12 weeks.

 

  1. Test yourself. If you can’t afford the test mentioned above, then just eliminate the most common food allergens for 12 weeks — that’s dairy, gluten, yeast, eggs, corn, soy, and peanuts. After the 12 weeks, reintroduce them to see if they cause any symptoms. This is an effective way to isolate the foods that may be causing you problems.

 

  1. Get rid of the unwanted inflammation in the gut. There are good natural over the counter anti-inflammatories for the gut. and NO I’m not talking about Ibuprofen or Tylenol that will make it worse. I’m talking about Turmeric or Curcumin. This is often the best way to deal with the chronic bacterial overgrowth that causes bloating and irritable bowel syndrome and inflammation.

   

  1. Repopulate your digestive tract with good bacteria. I don’t usually recommend brands, but when it comes to probiotics the quality varies so much that I suggest taking two specific brands that can be found by contacting our office. Our specific Pre/Pro/Post biotics are a special “probiotic” that helps to further normalize gut and colon function.

 

  1. Try digestive enzymes with meals to help break down food while your gut heals.  You also may benefit from nutrients that help heal the lining of the gut including fish oil, can also be found in our office.
